SUITCASE by Mary J Blige

2nd Annual BET Honors - ArrivalsMary J Blige has been successful at creating and singing songs about matters of the heart.  Her songs are deep and are thought provoking.  There is also a sense of empowerment and healing in the words she sings in her songs.  Suitcase is a powerful song dealing with the outcry of Mary J Blige portraying a female who is tired of being hurt and heartbroken by someone who is suppose to love her.

The video scene shows two doctors who are looking at the mental health of a female who was admitted.  In the video the female confesses she might as well plead insanity if she continues to let the man in her life hurt her.  She is faced with staying in the dysfunctional relationship or deciding to pack her clothes and leave with her suitcase.  At the end of the video she decides to leave and tells her mental abuser that this is his good-by song.  She goes on to say while he is explaining his side she will be zipping up her suitcase.

Mary J Blige nailed it with this song because mental and physical abuse is a national and global problem.  Whether it is male or female, mental and physical abuse are problems that need to be addressed before they become deadly.  Perpetrators do not have the right to physically or mentally abuse anyone to the point of killing their very existence.  Such incidents should be reported and victims should seek counseling before it is too late.

Every man or woman should love themselves enough to pack up, leave and get help before they have a mental break down or go into a deep depression.  God has a plan for each of us.  An example of this is given in Jeremiah 29:11.  For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.  It is up to us to fight the good fight of faith and not let the enemy kill the plan and purpose God has for us.

We are fearfully and wonderfully made by God. (Psalm 139:14)  Do not believe the enemy’s voice about your purpose instead believe God.  Romans 3:4 says “God forbid: yea, let God be found true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy words, And mightest prevail when thou comest into judgment.”   No man or woman is the ultimate authority or Lord over any other man or woman.  We are all accountable to the true and living God who is the only righteous judge.  (2 Timothy 4:8)
