Comfort For Troubled Christians by J.C. Brumfield

Comfort For Troubled Christians0001“Comfort For Troubled Christians” by J.C. Brumfield is a small but powerful book that is a must read during trials and tribulations.  Although small enough to fit in the palms of your hands, this 64 page book is packed with helpful information.

In the Foreword of the book, Brumfield says that God’s Children can be joyous and victorious even in the midst of the fire of trial and suffering.  He further states that in sickness and poverty, persecution and trial, abuse and betrayal, heartache and disappointment, God’s child can have a perfect peace that passes all human understanding.  He boldly dedicates this book to saints in affliction.

In Brumfield’s “Comfort For Troubled Christians,” he uses water and fire to paint a picture of God’s hand at work in our lives.  Brumfield points out that water and fire are a necessity for mankind.  He also states that water and fire can also be man’s worst enemy.

During the times of trials and tribulations, God cares for saints who are suffering affliction.  No one likes suffering and pain but it yields an eternal result for our good. In Psalm 66:12, there is evidence of the saints expected end.  “We went through fire and through water; but thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place.”  Christians can rest assure that God will bring us out of our afflictions.

Brumfield explains there is a purpose for Trial By Fire.  He uses the book of Job as an example because Job compared his affliction as being cast into a furnace.  Job also had an inner peace about going through his trial because he knew God would bring him out.  In Job 23:10, Job says “When he hath tried me I shall come forth as gold.”  Brumfield explains the Trial By Fire is a divine method with the divine motive to purge and purify with the divine objective of our righteousness.  Although the Trial By Fire is painful we must remember what God said. “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. (Isaiah 55:8)

In “Comfort For Troubled Christians,” Brumfield gives step by step instruction and advice to Christians who are in despair.  He provides scriptures to comfort those who are suffering from uncertainty during trials and tribulations.  Brumfield reiterates that during the times Christians go through trials and tribulations God cares for you, God cleanses and purges you, God comforts you, God controls the fire, and God knows when His work is done on you.

I highly recommend “Comfort For Troubled Christians” by J.C. Brumfield.  This book was personally a comfort to me during the loss of my husband in 1994.  Throughout the trial and tribulation of dealing with losing a spouse uncertainty and despair was on the rise.  Not knowing how to deal with the weight of it all, God spoke and comforted me through the information in this tiny book.  The Holy Spirit reassured me that God was still in control while my world felt upside down.
